Top 5 Success Elements For Your Executive Resume - No. 1
I want to go above and beyond today, because my professional opinion is that you need to go above and beyond when it comes to your executive resume. While key words, expertise, accomplishments, and achievements are all certainly necessary, particularly at the CEO, CFO, and CIO levels, they do not comprise the totality that's required to put forth a successful executive resume.
You can learn all top 5 success elements for your executive CV in our webinar, "How To Write A Perfect Resume." This article will focus on success element #1: magnetism. Your executive resume needs to be a magnet, one that pulls in employers and recruiters.
How do we accomplish this? A critical strategy is to adjust the mindset. The resume is not a wall on which you should throw up everything remotely professional and see what sticks. Rather, the resume is a marketing piece in which you are speaking to a particular audience about how you provide a specific value that they need. There's a big difference.
What do you think will attract employers and recruiters more? "Strategic commercial real estate executive committed to delivering results for your organization over the long term..." (Sorry, I nearly fell asleep just writing that example, so that would be your first clue that this is not the approach to use).
Instead, let's be bold and put forth language that is authentic, true, not over-the-top, but has a significantly higher chance of attracting the reader: "International commercial real estate developer and asset manager specializing in structuring multi-million dollar transactions in the hospitality sector."
"Yowsa! Who's THAT guy?" That's the reaction we're looking to prompt from employers and recruiters in the first 5 seconds of looking over the resume.
We talk about resume magnetism, plus the other top 5 success elements for your executive resume, in our webinar, "How To Write A Perfect Resume." The webcast teaches you the right things to do in your specific situation, and you'll learn how to leverage your masterful executive resume for the most effective job search and the most lucrative salary negotiations.
